Job Overview:
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is the UK’s primary competition and consumer agency. Our mission is to promote competition for the benefit of consumers, both within and outside the UK, and ensure that markets work well for consumers, businesses, and the economy. We enforce competition and consumer law, conduct market studies and investigations, and provide advice and guidance on regulatory matters.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is offering an exciting internship opportunity for individuals passionate about competition policy, market dynamics, and consumer welfare. As an intern, you will have the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic regulatory environment and contribute to real-world projects that impact businesses and consumers across the UK.
Job Responsibilities:
- Research and Analysis: Conduct research and analysis on competition and consumer-related issues across various sectors of the economy. This may involve gathering and analyzing market data, studying industry trends, and assessing the competitive landscape.
- Project Support: Provide support to CMA teams working on market studies, investigations, and enforcement cases. Assist in gathering evidence, preparing reports, and developing recommendations to address competition concerns and promote consumer welfare.
- Policy Development: Contribute to the development of competition and consumer policy initiatives by conducting literature reviews, drafting policy briefs, and analyzing the potential impact of regulatory interventions.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including businesses, industry associations, government agencies, and consumer groups, to gather insights, solicit feedback, and communicate CMA’s objectives and findings effectively.
- Administrative Tasks: Assist with administrative tasks as needed, including organizing meetings, maintaining project documentation, and supporting the day-to-day operations of the CMA.
Job Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate degree program in economics, law, business, public policy, or a related field.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to critically evaluate complex information and draw meaningful conclusions.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated interest in competition policy, regulatory affairs, or consumer protection issues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with statistical analysis tools or econometric software is desirable.
